The joys of homeownership, part x
Sep. 29th, 2005 11:46 amSmall fierce thunderstorm this morning resulted in water in the basement again. So we called the town. The guys they sent over put a camera-on-a-snake down the pipe and discovered that, while our part of the pipe was pretty clean, there was a *mass* of roots starting out under the sidewalk and continuing past under the street.
So they got the drill and started drilling.
And they broke the drill at the mass 55' from the house.
That is, about 4' into the road. The drill head's broken and the pipe it's on won't move forward or back. They're talking about having to dig up the street to get it out.
Oy, what a mess.
Update
They did finally manage to get the drill out and all bits of the pipe (yay!) but there's something broken in the main, so they'll be back with jackhammers tomorrow morning.
